I had a lovely weekend - it was my last session of a four week CAE Melbourne children's book illustration course on Saturday where we worked on a painted tissue-paper collage, a technique I hope to work with more often. I finished my piece off at home with some pencil work from my birthday present box of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. These will definitely be put to good use. Thanks Mum and Dad!

I bought this great book at the NGV bookshop during the week - 'Counting Birds' by Edinburgh based illustrator Alice Melvin .
Count the birds from one to twenty and watch what they get up to from sunrise to night time, from the cockerel's first crow, to the rooks flying home to roost for the night.
'Counting Birds' is published by Tate Publishing 2009. Take a look at the Tate website for similar beautifully designed books and products for children by artists including Sara Fanelli, Rob Ryan and Orla Kiely.

Today I am heading in a westerly direction from my usual web stomping ground of Sweden and Denmark. These gorgeous pictures are by Norwegian photographer Trine Thorsen.
The Scandinavians seem to have the white wall / whitewashed floorboards / painted vintage furniture / clashing retro textiles decorating look down pat. And how lovely is that colourful crochet throw?

Last month I was a lucky recipient of a voucher to an online fabric shop via my favourite all-things-fabric-related blog True Up . My voucher was to the Australian website Retro Age Vintage Fabrics , and here are a few images of the lovely textiles that arrived promptly and in pristine condition into my mail box. I think a bit of cushion sewing will be on the cards next weekend!
Take a look at Vanessa's Retro Age Fabrics blog for the latest additions of vintage textile loveliness available at the Retro Age website here .

A gorgeous collection of colourful and inspiring children's bedroom decor ideas can be found via the talented Swedish photographer Anitta Behrendt 's website.
I love the turquoise / harvest yellow / ultramarine colour palette and hexagon patchwork design featured on this bed storage drawer.
And I especially love this cheery yellow wardrobe!
Vintage patterns galore and another bright splash of yellow.
I love the vintage wallpaper details...

Another little peek into a bright and cheerful, vintage pattern filled Swedish interior. A family of six call this apartment home. From the pages of Hus & Hem Magazine .

Whoops! I'm one day late... but here is our new Hiccups quilted coverlet and sham appropriately named 'Valentine'. Bring some loveliness to a little girl's bedroom all year round with this heart embellished design.
